After what seems like an eternity, we have finally moved into our new home!
The house is a beautiful 5 bedroom Victorian semi-detached villa, overlooking the River Witham in Lincolnshire. As soon as we saw it we loved it, but there is a huge amount of work to do. There are a lot of cracks which we initially thought were subsidence, but a structural survey reported that it was due to heat expansion and shrinkage. There are a number of areas of damp and we had concerns about the electrics, especially once we found the fuse box under the kitchen sink.
Outside the garden is lovely and there are a couple of nice seating areas, but the climbing plants seem to have taken over a bit, even coming in through the garage roof.
We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us, so we’ve decided to blog our progress. The main goal is to give us somewhere to record our achievements, but hopefully it will also give us the opportunity to share our experiences and help out anyone else who’s thinking about embarking on a similar project.
Expect to see some knitting, sewing and gardening projects too – a quick curtain project will be a welcome distraction when stripping woodchip gets too much!
